Criteria for Promotion VI to VIII

For The Session 2016-2017

Promotion will be granted on the basis of the whole year's performance of the student in the C.C.E. (Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation) which is a system of assessment of students that covers all aspects of development of students. C.C.E is a process to evaluate holistic profile of the learner through regular assessment of both Scholastic as well as Co-Scholastic areas.

The Session will be spread over 2 terms, one from April 2016 to September 2017 and second from October 2016 to March 2017.

Scholastic areas include:-

Formative and summative assessment. Each term will have two formative and one summative assessments.

Co-Scholastic Areas include:-

  • Life skills
  • Art
  • Music
  • Attitudes & Values

Co-scholastic skills include:-

(any two of) Literary and Creative skills, Scientific skills, I.T skills or Organisational skills. Health & Physical Education and Yoga will also form an integral part of this assessment.

Assessment will be both Formative and Summative. The weightage is given below

Formative Assessment will be evaluated on the basis of Weekly Tests, Assignments, C.W., H.W., Practicals, Projects, Oral Testing, Quiz, Experiments and other activities in class.
Summative assessment will be carried out at the end of each term. This will be a term end exam i.e. first and second term exam.

The grading scale will be on a nine point scale as per table below

Co-Scholastic attainments will be done on 5 point Scale.It will be done once in a session.

Criteria for Promotion IX - X

For The Session 2016-2017

Students of Classes IX - X will undergo Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) as recommended by CBSE. Spread over two terms, one from April 2016 to September 2016 and the second from October 2016 to March 2017, the students will be assessed in Scholastic as well as Co-scholastic areas.

Part 1: Scholastic Areas:-

The students will be assessed and graded for Scholastic areas-English II Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and the additional subject- Fundamentals of Information Technology.

Both the Formative Assessment and the Summative Assessment in these subjects will be part of School Based Assessment. Formative Assessment (FA) will be done on the basis of Weekly Tests, Assignments, Projects, Oral testing, Quiz, Home-work and other activities in the class. Summative Assessment (SA) is the Terminal Assessment of performance at the end of a term. This will be an End of Term Exam.

The pattern of assessment (with weightage) is given below:

First Term : FA1 (10%) + FA2 (10%) + SA1 (30%) = 50%
Second Term : FA3 (10%) + FA4 (10%) + SA2 (30%) = 50%

For Class IX, the score for FA4 in English, Maths, Science and Social Studies will be provided by the CBSE, based on the performance in PSA exam (conducted by CBSE).

For Class X, the PSA score obtained in Class IX, will be carried forward as FA4 score. However there is provision for improving this score by reappearing for the PSA in class IX in the next session.

Important Points:-

A student must obtain a minimum of Grade D in all the subjects under Scholastic areas excluding the additional 6th subject as per Scheme of Studies to qualify for promotion to next class.

A student has to obtain at least 25% marks in the Summative Assessment ( both SA1 and SA2 taken together), to be eligible to qualify the examination; i.e. at least 15 marks out of 60 and total 33% in each of the five main subjects of scholastic area.

It is mandatory for a student to appear in all the two Summative Assessments.

In respect of students participating in sports at National/ International levels organised by recognised Federations/ CBSE/SGFI, exemption from appearing in any one of the Summative Assessments could be granted subject to prior approval of the Board provided such events shall happen to be holding/ coinciding during the month/ period of the conduct of the Summative Assessment. In such cases, the marks obtained in one SA shall be treated as granted for the other SA also by the Board. The school shall fill in the relevant field with zero (0) marks. But in the hard copy a remark to the effect shall be entered against the names of such students, supported by necessary documents. As regards attendance requirement, the school may take action as per rule 14 of the Examination Bylaws. However, efforts may be made by the school to give such students one more chance to appear in the SA 1 upto 31st October in class IX/X and for SA2 upto 31st March in Class IX.

Parents are advised to go through CBSE Circular No. COORD/EC- 14/01/2013 in this connection for detailed information.

Those students who have obtained Grade El or E2 in the subjects under Scholastic Areas shall have to improve their performance to qualify the subject(s) in one subsequent attempt.

Grading System for Scholastic Areas (Grading on 9 point Scale)

  • Visual and Performing Arts
  • Attitude and Values Towards

Co-Scholastic Activities

  Any two of the following will be assessed:

  • Literary & Creative Skills (LCT)
  • Scientific Skills (SCT)
  • Information and Technology (ICT)
  • Organization & Leadership Skills (Clubs)

   Health and Physical Activities:

  • Sports/Indigenous sports
  • Yoga
Grades and grade points will be awarded in Co-Scholastic Areas as per the table below:

The overall performance of the student is based on the achievements both in the Scholastic and Co-Scholastic areas as follows:

Under Scholastic Area, Grades will be upscaled to the next higher grade in one or two subjects as per the total Grade points achieved under Co- Scholastic Areas 2(A), 2(B), 2(C), 2(D) and Co-Scholastic Activities 3(A), 3(B) as given below:

53 to 65: Grade in two Subjects of scholastic areas to be upscaled

40 to 52: Grade in one subject of Scholastic area to be upscaled.

39 and below: No upscaling of Grade in the subject of Scholastic Areas.

  • Upscaling will be done from lower Grade to higher Grade.
  • No grade in a subject of Scholastic area will be upscaled twice.
  • The upscaled grade will be as shown against each grade.
  • Exemptions available to Differently Abled students as per CBSE rules shall apply.
  • The promotion policy as stated vide CBSE Circular No. 09/2012 dated the January 19th, 2012 will apply till further guidelines are received.
